We have had a few animals here for care over the years and have seen different doctors each time. While previous experiences were fine, our last visit was absolutely awful. The doctor seemed to lack any real compassion or bedside manor when telling us he believed our dog had cancer, despite us visibly being upset about it. He nonchalantly told us diagnosing it would be $1000-1500. And even said "if money is an issue, it's only going to get worse from here." He offered no other course of treatment than wanting to sedate and operate on our 10+ year old dog, which was incredibly risky for his age. There was no "these are our options" or "we can try medications." The only option was to let him put our boy through surgeries and pay thousands of dollars. The only friendly member of staff for our whole visit was the receptionist. Whom we also heard the doctor talk rudely to when asking him a question so she could get us an accurate quote on the surgical procedures. The techs and doctor only really seemed interested in whether or not we were paying them (which we already had, in full, almost $600 at this point). The office staff seems to lack good communication and nobody really seemed to know what was going on when we were asked to come back in to talk to the doc after our boy's xrays and labs. While I do understand that they were busy and I think he may have been the only doc there, people's pets are often considered family. Being compassionate and sensitive when dealing with things like this goes a long way. We had a much better experience at the Raleigh County Animal Hospital, who were so kind when we brought him to them. We will only be returning there for care in the future. Would not recommend Crab Orchard Vet Hospital to anyone who loves their animals.

New to the area. We were looking for a great veterinarian a it was time to get our Beor Boel spayed. They are very helpful and caring. I would recommend this place 100 percent.

Dr. Thompson is awesome! He takes the time to listen and truly examines the cat fully. He spoke with me about the issues with my cat and we came to a determination that made me much happier than I thought as to what was going to happen. The staff there is lovely. The ladies are kind and caring and also extremely helpful. I've only ever gone to the other office on Dry Hill and like that offer this one is fantastic! I would highly recommend them. Thank you Dr. Thompson for being such a great doctor! 😻
